My name is Lauren Garcia, and my dream is to make your dreams come true. Think of me as your fairy Godmother.
Let's get one this straight: being an entrepreneur is NOT. EASY. Trust me. But, it can be incredibly rewarding. Let me take a moment to give you a gigantic virtual hug, because we all need that once in a while. Now take a deep breath and a sigh of relief, because I’m here to help.
I am (for lack of a better word) obsessed with helping other entrepreneurs get clear on their business vision especially when it comes to developing a marketing plan or specific social media strategy. I gotcha, guuuuurl!
I’ve had so many clients over the years come to me with the exact same struggles I faced when I was first starting out as a business CEO newbie (this was 12 years ago, when I started my first business--I'm a bit of a serial entrepreneur as you'll see below...keep reading...)
Let’s take a look into my own story, so you’ll understand where I’m coming from…
You could say I've been an entrepreneur since age 7. I started a babysitters club and used to recruit other girls I met out in public if they wanted to be my friend and work in my Babysitters Club. Yes, a babysitter at age 7 (ha!) I would ask for their number to follow up with them. My mom hates hearing this story because it breaks her heart that I would usually never hear from them again, haha! The reason I’m telling you this is that I’m sure you also have had the desire, want, and need to be an entrepreneur if not sometime at an earlier age then you certainly have it now. And there’s a reason for that. For fear of sounding cliche, it’s because it’s your destiny (seriously!)
Fast forward...At the young age of 14, I traveled to Nicaragua with my family where we stayed there for a month. I was so incredibly moved (and a tad bit traumatized) by the poverty I witnessed there. This inspired me to gather up all my courage (I am an extremely shy introvert, so this was tough for me), to present my idea of starting a nonprofit to help the children there. Fast forward to 12 years later today, and we are now feeding over 1000 children, twice a day, 5 days a week to motivate them to not only go to school but also so that they are getting the proper proteins in their nutrition.
Fast forward again, after getting my Master’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations at the University of Texas at Austin, (ahem, BEST PLACE ON EARTH!) ...I started looking for jobs. I remember many tears, a lot of yelling, a lot of “what is my purpose in life?” “what am I supposed to do with my life?” At one point I thought I was going crazy. This is the typical story of a millennial. You are promised that a great education will essentially guarantee you a good job. When I found that to no longer be true, I was crushed.
One day, amidst all the tears, the frustration, the seemingly endless job hunt, an idea occurred to me.
Why don’t I just start my own business? I know plenty about this anyway and I’m really truly passionate about marketing and especially about helping others.
VOILA! LIGHTBULB MOMENT!
Since then, there’s been no turning back. Why am I telling you all of this?
BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I HEAR YOUR CONFUSION, YOUR ANGST, YOUR ANXIETY, YOUR JOY, YOUR HAPPINESS, YOUR HOPE, YOUR FAITH, ALL JUMBLED UP INTO ONE BIG PILE I LIKE TO CALL...... "BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR."
THIS IS WHERE I COME IN.
Don’t take the stereotyped “millennial approach” assuming that you can do it all and learn everything on your own and eventually you’ll “get it” and “be successful.” Sorry sista, but if that were the case, you wouldn’t be on my page right now. Amiright?
